Nurse

Kim rang yesterday. She is not discharging me today. She is being a worry-wart and won’t discharge me until I see my surgeon in mid-October; until then I get the pleasure of seeing Kim’s happy, shiny face once a week.

Yipee!!!

Kim, my nurse, has reduced me to 4 visits per week – down from daily. I am quietly optimistic about this. The hole has gone to 1.3cm deep and is very narrow now. Mr Geeklawyer need not worry, Kim has assured me that I will not require packing of the wound while I’m in England [...]

Quietly Optimistic

Kim visited today, for my dressing. We are going to reduce it down to 5 visits per week. In the space of 4 days the hole has shrunk 0.2cm. I am quietly optimistic.
Thankfully the bleeding stopped on Friday from the Resident making the incision on Wednesday. Abdominal pain has lessened, and yet I am not [...]

Update on Kim

… my nurse is okay. Seems she didn’t have food poisoning, but instead was dehydrated. Not sure if I’ve mentioned this before but my nurse is a mad woman; she cycles, plays on 5 different badminton teams, manages to share her living space with 8 cats and one dog, works in a medical clinic, works [...]

The Hole

Kim measured it today and I now have to share the happy news – which hopefully should make Geeklawyer sigh with relief and gratitude.
The hole has gone from 1.8cm to 1.2c in the space of a week.
If I didn’t jiggle too much I would be prancing about like a fairy.

Kim, my nurse

… she is sick. She was all shivery last night, while doing my dressing. I am a little concerned as her next visit was to an ER to get herself taken care of. She couldn’t visit me on Saturday for the dressing – she had such severe stomach cramps, claiming she might have food poisoning, [...]

Wound Care Nurse, part deux

I have received the report from the Wound Care Nurse, who came early last week to assess my “hole” and recommend any different course of treatment.
What I have to do is take multivitamins (already doing that), vitamin C (will start doing that) and zinc (will start doing that). What my nurse has to do is [...]

Wound Care Nurse

Huzzah! I have an appointment on Monday for a Wound Care Nurse to take a look at my wee little hole that refuses, rather stubbornly, to close.
Hopefully she can recommend a treatment program for the hole so that it can close much more quickly.
I swear, the pace of closure of this pesky hole is slower [...]

Hospital Visit

I had my wee little visit at the hospital this week. To make sure I’m not dying or any other such nonsense.
Doctor seemed pleased except for one niggling bit — I have a fungal infection of the incision. Joy!
I suspect I got the infection while visiting Dale and others in Ottawa a few weeks ago. [...]

My Hole

Kim told me last night that CCAC (Community Care Access Centre) – which is responsible for assigning a nurse to do my dressing – had cut me off as of June 1st. Thankfully Kim fought for me and service is continuing – until July 1st.
Great, just great. If my wound doesn’t close by then what [...]
